The Way My Brain Works - January 10th…

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

I’m probably telling you a lot more abut the way my brain works than I sometimes mean to, but I thought that I would give you a peek at some of the places I stop by on a daily basis.

Even if you don’t like flying… you have to check out Fly Away Cafe… MJ has a great way of entertaining you and I’m one of those people who are scared to death to step on a plane! Maybe I’m what they call an Arm Chair Traveler…

The Really Big Button - January 5th

Friday, January 5th, 2007

“Welcome to the most unusual artifact to be discovered on the Superhighway de la Informatique : the really big button that doesn’t do anything. Developed in early ‘94, labelled as the Mystery Spot of the Internet, thousands flock to this button every day, pushing it, attempting to get it to do something; all in vain.”

Yes, even after reading all of the comments about a button that doesn’t do anything, I still had to go and press it… twice just to see! Are you going to press it??

Here are your television tricks and treats for this Halloween

Halloween Pumpkin
I always wondered why Christmas offers so many holiday specials, but the same is not offered for Halloween? Well, I guess you can say things are improving a little. No, you aren’t going to find a list of specials for the month of October, but there is a line up for October 31st at least. If you have nothing to do but hand out treats on the big night, you might want to check out what is available to watch on the spookiest night of the year. So, stock up on popcorn and get ready!

On my list is…
“Most Haunted Live! (Travel Channel) — They do it one more time on The Travel Channel.
The Amityville Horror (Showtime) — The 2005 remake.
House of Usher (Turner Classic Movies) — Vincent Price in the Edgar Allen Poe classic.”

There are lots of others that appeal to me, but I think I will tape so I can watch them at my leisure.

Just Playing…

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

Every day I try to do a little roaming around to see what other people are up to and today I hit on… House is Right. Have to admit, it’s not a show that I watch, but after reading a few of Cory’s entries, I just might have to find out what night it is on! I obviously work way too hard and I need to relax more! And maybe I need a new TV too. The one that I use for stuff no one else wants to watch is older than my kids and it just refuses to quit. I have my eye on a nice big flat screen, but no chance until my antique bites the biscuit.

Talk Like a Pirate Day - September 19th

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

Pirate - Pirates - Mouse PadsDidn’t even know that there was such a day until we were on vacation in Cornwall a few years ago and suddenly everyone on the radio stations started… talking like a pirate. We thought that it was just something whimsical because we were in Cornwall, but apparently that isn’t the case. It was actually two Americans who came up with the idea!

And believe it or not, I even found a site that offers Pirate ringtones for your cell! Now how cool is that?? And in case your Mouse Pad has seen better days, how about a skeleton pirate mousepad for your desk??

Grow Your Own TreeHouse

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

“Pleaching is not exactly garden variety as building strategies go, but it’s certainly among the most ornate, natural, and “green.” German landscape architect, Rudolf Doernach, used pleaching and other techniques in what he broadly called “biotecture” or “agritecture.” Like permaculture, these methods are set up to be largely self-sustaining, meaning that once the initial planting and early training of the branches is complete, the structures continue to grow on their own, requiring minimal external energy while providing maximum agricultural yield (as in the Fab Tree Hab, which is meant to provide food for the inhabitants). Permaculture is also about inclusion, accessibility, and mutual service between humans and the natural world. With proper knowledge, you should be able to grow your own house!”

Well, I never had a treehouse that looked anything like this, but I sure would have like to! This is more than cool!

Are You Listening to Pandora?

Friday, August 18th, 2006

Living Under June I don’t usually listen to music while I am working, but a few of my co-workers were talking about this site, so I just had to go check it out.

IN a word, it is amazing. There are lots of “radio stations” on the internet, but this one goes one step further. It plays music that is based on what you like to listen to. The first thing it asks is for the name of an artist. The first person I thought of was Jann Arden. Well, I’ve been listening to her material and artists that I didn’t even know that I would like, for the last hour! Now how cool is that?

And Pandora even found a few songs that I hadn’t heard in years!

Check out Pandora! You are going to love it!

Email Housekeeping

It's Hard to Make a Difference When You Can't Find Your Keys: The Seven-Step Path to Becoming Truly Organized

I was just over at Blog Fabulous where the topic of the day was about organization and email housekeeping in particular. No, I wasn’t sure what that was either until I started to read about it. Apparently people don’t seem to get around to answering or deleting their emails. That drives me nuts. At one point I had 5000 emails and while most of them were garbage, there were still sitting there taking up space and making it incredibly hard to find something when you need it. I have definitely spent way too many hours looking for one elusive email before finally throwing up my hands in digust. Why can’t I be more organized!

Well now all but the last two hundred emails get flushed every morning. All the good stuff gets sent into folders for quick access.

Now there is a downside to all of this. A few weeks ago a co-worker was talking about a message that she had that was over three years old. She insisted that it was great fun to re-read some of the good ones. You just can’t win for losing!

And losing keys… don’t even ask. Caffeine withdrawl ??

Reading Fortunes

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

ONLY $4.50! 10 Decks, Similar to Bicycle Brand, High Quality Plastic-Coated Playing Cards in Red or Blue (Ships in 24 Hrs!) GREAT FOR REGULAR OR TOURNAMENT PLAY! APO Friendly!I don’t know if you believe or not, but you just might be surprised at what you can do with a little practice. I had this fascination with tea leaves a few years ago and I got so good at it that I actually stopped doing it. It started to get really scary, but that is another story. What I found for you today is how to use a regular deck of cards to read fortunes.

Think of it as your summer project for this year. Want to practice? The minute your friends learn that you have… the gift, they will be lining up to have their fortunes told! Who knows, learning the meanings of each card might even help improve your memory! That can’t hurt!

Here’s a little something to help your keep them straight.

HEARTS: Emotional, symbols of pain and suffering.

CLUBS: Friends, relationships.

DIAMONDS: Difficulties, money problems.

SPADES: Warnings.
