Enjoying the Interval – January 7th

There is no cure for birth and death save to enjoy the interval.
George Santayana

Enjoying the interval. That’s the part most of us miss. We are too busy worrying about what might be around the corner!

Yoga For Your Back – December 28th

Yoga For Your Back – December 28th

Thinking out loud here… I’m not sure I like the idea of practicing Yoga for someone with an aching back, but after reading the short article I think that I know where I went wrong.
I did not use a group session like the women in the study. I tried following a video, so chances are, I was not in the proper position and only made my back pain worse. I swore that I would never do Yoga again… but maybe if I found a group to join, maybe I could learn how to strengthen my back?? And if I …read more

Question of the Day

Question of the Day

If you could ask your grandfather one thing, what would it be??
My own grandfather fought in the First World War, was captured and then escaped from a prison camp and made it home in one piece. I don’t know why it never occurred to me to ask him to tell us stories when we were growing up, but I never thought of it.
What a waste!
So what would you ask your grandfather if you had the chance?

I’m Happy Again!!

I’m Happy Again!!

I gave up the “giving up” coffee as of yesterday. I’m not drinking as much, but I’m at least indulging again and I’m a much nicer person to be around. I never thought that it would make such a huge difference until I watched Ken Barlow (all of you Coronation Street fans know what I’m talking about.) He made a bet with Deirdre that he could give up coffee if she gave up smoking.

There was no living with the man lol… Okay, I know that it’s just a “soap” but it started me thinking and then there was …read more

Update on Giving Up Coffee

Update on Giving Up Coffee

Well, it’s day three and I’m miserable. At least I was until I saw the message from Deb L… thank you, thank you, thank you.
At the moment I’m trying this gel (that you apply every night) and there seems to be a little improvement. But the idea about the straw is worth checking out as well. Yes, it is the front teeth that I’m most concerned about. If I can get them white again, maybe I won’t have to give it up afterall. Fingers crossed. I do miss my coffee!!
I’m so used to having a cup at breakfast …read more

I’m Giving Up Coffee… again

I’m Giving Up Coffee… again

My daughter doesn’t drink coffee and has the whitest teeth imaginable. My son was over on Monday and his teeth positively glowed too. That made me decide that if I ever want my teeth to be “glow in your face” white, I’m going to have to give up coffee.
Did I ever tell you just how much I like coffee?? And if they have liquer and whip cream on top, I like it even more. But I’m giving it up. Only one problem…
I have this headache from hell. I’m not sure if it’s the coffee because I did have an espresso …read more

How To Stop Worrying

How To Stop Worrying

There should be a subject at school about relaxing. I certainly could have used a little help over the years when I jumped to the wrong conclusions about a broken curfew or worried needlessly about something that hadn’t even happened yet! But I had nothing to fall back on.
And then I think about the subjects that I did take. To be quite honest, I can’t remember the last time I used physics or algebra?? I’m not saying that they are useless subjects, but I would have been a lot better off learning how to deal with real life issues …read more

Adjusting to Change

Adjusting to Change

Thought of the Day:
“There is no amount of darkness that can extinguish the inner light. The important thing is not to spend our lives trying to control the environment around us. The task is to control the environment within us.”
Jean Chittester
Thinking Outside of the Box:
Too often, we look to change the circumstances that happen in our life. We can’t. That’s a hard one to accept. Events occur, they are out of our control, and at times, they devastate our lives.
But, we are not totally out of control. We cannot change what happens to us (well, there …read more

A Good Measure More of Soul

A Good Measure More of Soul

Thought of the Day:
“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”
Helen Keller
Thinking Outside the Box:
Kind of reminds a person of “no pain, no gain.” Or on a deeper level, “The Dark Night of the Soul.” The bottom line, according to Helen Keller, and countless philosophers before her, is that if we do not suffer, we stagnate. Small comfort in the middle of the suffering.
But looking at the nature of our difficulties, trials, and struggles from this point-of-view, allows us to look …read more
