Desk Gadgets… A Place for My Pens

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Bankers Box Perf-Ect Pencil Holder, Wire, Black 22307 / FEL22307 I don’t know if it’s just me or not, but I simply can’t stand a messy desk and there is nothing worse than being unable to find a pen, pencil or eraser when I need to jot something down. I just can’t work unless I have everything in its place. Maybe it’s just one of my personal quirks, but it definitely helps! And if that’s all it takes to make me more productive… well, I’m that much further ahead!

Choosing Your Best Pair of Sunglasses - January 11

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Nike Skylon EXP RD Sunglasses - EV0176-002 (Fade Silver w/ Grey Lens with Silver Flash and Orange Lens)“According to the Optical Laboratories Association (an eye-wear industry trade association), people go to the sunglasses counter with two questions in mind: “How will the glasses look?” and “Are they dark enough?” You do need to consider these things, but other concerns come into play as well.

Do sunglasses really protect your eyes?
Yes. Think of them as sunscreen for the eyes. They shield your eyes from wind, dust, and drying, as well as UV (ultraviolet) rays, visible light, and glare. Many experts think that lifetime exposure to UV helps cause cataracts and other eye disorders, though there is some controversy about just how much damage sunlight does, or what percentage of cataracts are caused by it. Blue light, part of the visible spectrum, may damage the retina and impair vision. It makes sense to protect your eyes. Bright sunlight and glare are unpleasant or even painful, and can be hazardous if you are driving or playing a sport. ”

It’s the cataracts that scare me. When I was little and having my eyes checked, I’m sure that I heard the optomotrist state that I will have cataracts when I’m older. I don’t know why he would say that or if I completely dreamed it up, but it has always been in the back of my mind.

And now my mother (for the past few years) has been going through laser surgery to remove them. It seems that they might be running in the family. But, if I can do something to prevent them or slow them down, I’m all for it. That’s why I have been ordering my sunglasses along with my prescription pair that I use for distance.

Closet Duty - January 3rd

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Misses C.B. Casual Long Sleeve OxfordIt’s time to clean out your closet of anything that doesn’t make you feel absolutely gorgeous. I just looked at mine and there are things in there that I don’t even recognize. Why is it that we are drawn to the same items over and over again.

Actually, before I give/toss any item, I’m going to try rotating my wardrobe. When it comes back from the laundry, I’m going to place it at the far left side of my closet so that I will have to work my way toward it. If I come to a piece that I just don’t want to wear… then it goes!!

Spoiling What You Already Have

The Beauty Buyble: The Best Beauty Products of 2007Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.”
Epicurus (Greek philosopher, BC 341-270)

Oh, oh… I think that man was writing about me. I should write down that quote and frame it. But I can’t help it… I love shopping! It’s my very favorite fun thing to do. ;)

Gotta Love the Mall at Christmas

Saturday, December 9th, 2006

Call of the Mall : The Geography of Shopping by the Author of Why We BuyI really can’t imagine how there are people out there who don’t like shopping?? And especially like this time of year, but I have to admit, Britt and I were at the mall on Thursday (I missed a day!!) and we saw so many women who obviously weren’t having a good time. Now tell me, what is there not to like?? You shop, you have lunch, you shop some more, you have coffee and then you might even decide to go out for dinner to top off the entire night.

But Britt and I were good on Thursday. We actually decided to go home for dinner. G was on a business trip, so he would never have known lol… But we did go home and made a salad and Monte Christo sandwiches.

Thank God for a daughter who likes to cook! ;) And here’s to many more shopping days before Christmas!

I have shopping bags under my eyes

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

The Shopping Bags: Tips, Tricks, and Inside Information to Make You a Savvy ShopperI don’t know if I can blame it on all of the shopping I have been doing lately, or it’s the fact that I have been waking up at 3:30 am every morning wide awake!! And this morning is no different, so I decided that I would see if there is something that I could do about them that does not require less shopping.

Well, the first thing that I read was about putting a bag of frozen peas against the area. Yes, that would work lol…, but maybe an cooling eye gel mask with a 15 minute break would work. And it seems that I have to change my makeup as well. Everything has to suddenly be applied to draw the eye up (and away from my bags) and here is something I didn’t know. Apparently a zinc-oxide ointment will held delate the bags. Must try that one!!

Any tricks that you would like to share??

How To Buy a DVD Player

Monday, September 18th, 2006

Coby TF-DVD7100 Portable DVD PlayerI have to admit that I’m not very technically inclined, but after reading this list, I’m worse off than I thought. I didn’t even know that DVDs could do all of this stuff!

“Step 4: Do You Need To Read CD-Rs?
Most DVD players will not read CD-R discs. If you have an absolute requirement to have your DVD player play back these discs, then you will significantly limit your choice in DVD players. Many of the name brand DVD players will not read CD-Rs. Many of the cheaper brand players will.

If CD-R playability is important to you, then make sure that you test this with a CD-R disc before buying a DVD player, or at least confirm with a reputable source that the DVD player that you intend purchasing does play CD-Rs.

Step 5: Do You Need To Replay MP3s?
A small number of DVD players are capable of playing back MP3 files. These are generally players at the low end of the market. No brand name player is capable of MP3 playback. If playback of MP3 files is essential to you, then you will severely limit your choice of DVD player. It goes almost without saying that if you require a DVD player to play back MP3 files that you should make sure that it can read CD-Rs.

Step 6: Do You Need Multi-Region?
The ability to play back DVDs from anywhere in the world is a significant advantage to you as a DVD consumer. With over 7,000 DVDs available in the US, and less than 1,000 available in Australia, you deny yourself the opportunity to access many DVD titles if you purchase a machine that is not region modifiable. Whilst you may not be keen on having your DVD player modified now, it is wise to ensure that you purchase a DVD player which can be modified down the track if you so desire. Fortunately, the great majority of DVD players that are available today are able to be modified.

See what I mean. I don’t know what half of that means. No wonder I get lost in those instruction books.

How To Buy a Digital Camera

Friday, September 15th, 2006

Canon PowerShot Pro Series S3 IS 6MP with 12x Image Stabilized ZoomOurs is about seven years old and is noticeably dated, so it’s time to start checking out what is new in the world of digital cameras! Here are a few things to consider…

“There are three basic body styles to consider. The compact or ultra compact digital camera fits inside your shirt pocket. There is a “wow” factor to these cameras, and they are convenient, but you will be paying a premium for the size or lack thereof. The standard camera is bigger, provides better quality for the money, and is usually able to provide all the features that a typical “point-and-shoot” photographer needs. The digital SLR camera provides the best quality shots of the three. The lenses can be changed, and the camera provides a great deal of flexibility. The cost is higher than either the compact or standard digital cameras.”

It seems that everyone is sporting the tiny cameras. Now I’m not sure which way to go… How about you. If you were to give me advice on a new camera, which way would you point me??

Celebrity Shrink: L.A. Idols Share Their Bad-Mood Busters

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

Evangeline LillyWe all have our bad days, our horrible days and our it-can’t-get-worse-than-this days. A study released last year by the Centers for Disease Control reports that, on average, women experience three and a half sad days each month. While that statistic may seem overly optimistic, that’s almost 12 percent of our lives spent in the doldrums. And, as we all know, those miserable, down-in-the-dumps days can often feel twice as long. So how does one deal? For inspiration, we hit the streets of Hollywood to ask our favorite celebrities how they handle their share of days gone wrong.

Nineteen different celebrities share their “bad mood” busters. Me… I go shopping!

When you are reading labels on food items… do you believe what they tell you?? I thought that you could pretty much rely on what is on the product, but apparently they can lie their socks off.
