Living One Day at a Time

Friday, December 8th, 2006

As the holiday season approaches, I find myself thinking more and more about the topic of… happiness and what it means.

Happiness is produced not so much by great pieces of good fortune that seldom happen, as by little advantages that occur ever day
Benjamen Franklin

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.
Albert Schweitzer

What’s the use of worrying?
It never was worth while,
So pack up your troubles in your old kit-bag,
And smile, smile, smile.
George Asaf

It is one of the beautiful compensations of life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.
Emerson, Ralph Waldo

If only we could remember some of these quotes when we need them most, our lives would be a lot more satisfying! Don’t you think??

It’s all about Christmas

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

The Christmas AlmanacIt’s funny how you can go through 11 months of the year, but the minute that December arrives (or nearly) you entire way of thinking changes. I went looking for some quotes about the season and thought that I would share some of the best…

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. Norman Vincent Peale

Christmas isn’t a season. It’s a feeling.
Edna Ferber

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.
Dr. Seuss

I wish we could put up some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it every month.
Harlan Miller

There’s nothing sadder in this world than to awake Christmas morning and not be a child.
Erma Bombeck

I think that if I had to pick just one, it would have to be the words of Erma Bombeck. This Christmas morning, I do want to wake up with all the excitement I remember as a kid. I don’t think that I ever slept on Christmas Eve. I was just like that little kid on that Disney commericial who is just so excited about going to Disney World that he simply can’t sleep!

Your Very First Thanksgiving

Friday, November 17th, 2006

Not being the cook in the family, I wouldn’t know where to start if someone suggested that I cook dinner. At least with my family, they would know what to expect and probably all bring a dish that would lend to a Pot Luck style of Thanksgiving. But I was doing a bit of searching around for advice and found this page. That very question was posed to a lot of celebrity cooks and they all had some great advice to offer.

My favorite has to be…
Invite mom over.
George Duran

lol… but just in case you can’t hand all the planning/cooking over to mom, there is still a lot of advice waiting to be shared over at The Food Network.

Thoughts of love…

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

It’s Sunday evening and my thoughts are turning to all things romance, so I thought that I would share some of the more memorable quotes on love that have passed my way!

Memory is to love what the saucer is to the cup.
Elizabeth Bowen

“Lust is what makes you keep wanting it, even when you have no desire to be with each other. Love is what makes you keep wanting to be with each other, even when you have no desire to do it.”
Judith Viorst

I hold it true, whate’er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
‘Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.
Alfred Tennyson

“You don’t love a woman because she’s beautiful; she is beautiful because you love her.” - Anonymous

David Tennant - David’s ‘Sexual Awakening’

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

David tennant
I don’t know how I would feel if I was Madonna these days. Here’s why…

“He’s quoted as saying in the Sun newspaper:“She’s quite extraordinary. When I was 14, the first single I ever bought was Like A Virgin. She was kind of my sexual awakening. I had some full-on posters of her on my wall. I don’t know what my parents thought. She still looks damn fit.”

This is a grown man, Dr. Who actually ;) who is probably young enough to be her son. I don’t know, but reading that in the newspaper would make me feel awfully old. And that is not something I care to feel for many, many years.

Any Dr. Who fans out there??

Why You Shouldn’t Drink Black Coffee

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

PlayersNever drink black coffee at lunch; it will keep you awake all afternoon.
- - -Jilly Cooper

I spent a long time looking for just the right quote for today, but none seemed to be perfect until I saw this one. I just love it.

and then I found more… :) Yes, I am craving coffee this morning!

The morning cup of coffee has an exhilaration about it which the cheering influence of the afternoon or evening cup of tea cannot be expected to reproduce. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

Coffee is a beverage that puts one to sleep when not drank.
Alphonse Allais

Decaffeinated Coffee. It’s useless warm brown water.”
Heard on David Letterman

As soon as coffee is in your stomach, there is a general commotion. Ideas begin to move…similes arise, the paper is covered. Coffee is your ally and writing ceases to be a struggle.
Honor de Balzac

“Coffee in England always tastes like a chemistry experiment.” But did you know that Agatha Christie actually wrote a book entitled… Black Coffee!

Calista Flockhart Lies About Her Age??

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

It's Great to be Old: Reasons to Stop Lying About Your AgeI’ve never told anyone how old I am. The minute they ask me I say, ‘That’s none of your business’. So that means I’ve never once lied about my age. Now that’s true.

Calista Flockhart

You know, I have no idea how old she is and I never really thought about it until I read this quote. She can be whatever age she wants to be. Me, I think nothing about lying about my age. In fact I think that I have always stopped for about ten years on any number ending with a nine. It’s getting harder now though. The kids are old enough to catch on. Gone are the days when I could remain 29 indefinitely.

But whenever a birthday does roll around, they do stop and ask me just how old I am. I guess I’m doing something right lol…

Thought for Today

Autumn Colors, New Hampshire

There is music in the meadows, in the air–
Autumn is here;
Skies are gray, but hearts are mellow,

—William Stanley Braithwaite, (1878–1962)
“A Lyric of Autumn,” Lyrics of Life and Love (1904)
