The Night Sky

The Night Sky

I can’t remember the last time I simply sat outside and looked at the night sky which leads me to wonder just how much I’ve missed over the years. And that probably goes for a lot of things in my life. We are simply too busy to slow down and look to see what is right in front of us!!
I remember staring at the Big Dipper in the night sky as a kid and was blown away by its magnificence! Have I become too jaded?

About Boredom

About Boredom

“Boredom is useful to me when I notice it and think: Oh I’m bored; there must be something else I want to be doing… boredom acts as an initiator of originality by pushing me into new activities or new thoughts.
Hugh Prather”
I know where Prather is going with this. My to-do list prevents me from getting bored. There are simply too many things that I haven’t gotten around to doing. I would probably pull out a notebook and start a list of blogging topics that I could use when I get home. Or maybe start notes on that …read more

Owning the Day

Owning the Day

“He is only rich who owns the day. There is no king, rich man, fairy or demon who possesses such power as that – Ralph Waldo Emerson”
Me… I want to own that cottage! I could see myself sitting there for hours at a time, listening to the waves lap against the shore and sipping ice tea.

About Cloud 9

About Cloud 9

“Cloud nine gets all the publicity, but cloud eight actually is cheaper, less crowded, and has a better view.” George Carlin
Have to admit, during my university days, we listened to a lot of what George Carlin had to say. The guy is a genious. If he can make me laugh when I have a headache… he has to be!

Life’s Little Surprises

Life’s Little Surprises

Who has time for surprises? Some people don’t even like them, but yesterday, we went for a walk behind our house. We were certainly in for a surprise!
The city is all around us, but a special area behind our house has been deemed green belt and it is virtually wild. Yesterday it finally dry enough to go exploring and I had no idea what to expect. I have never seen so many birds and trees since I was a kid. For someone who loves the city, I think that this was a little surprise that I wasn’t expecting. Living …read more

We Simply Don’t Notice

We Simply Don’t Notice

As a kid, we were so open to what the world had to offer. I can even remember laying out on the grass at night and just staring up at the stars and wondering what was out there?? The night was full of magic and so much that I could simply wonder about.
Then you grow up and something happens to all that magic. It’s like you simply haven’t the time to explore anymore. There’s the kitchen to clean up or the grass to cut!
This week, I’m going to take a lawn chair out onto the lawn and do a little …read more

Stress, Calories and a Goose

Stress, Calories and a Goose

I’m working on the “contant worrying thing” because it does nothing good for the body. And I just found out that if you give in to worrying, cortisol levels in your body remain high and the additional pounds go along for the ride. Why is this? Apparently cortisol increases your hunger levels. How do you handle it? Get physical so that you forget your worries and burn up those new calories.
And those of you who have been following my entries, already know that I really don’t like exercise, so I get it out of the way first thing …read more

A Little Daydreaming Will Do You Good!

A Little Daydreaming Will Do You Good!

“Everything starts as somebody’s daydream.” Larry Niven

As a teenager, I can remember spending hours simply daydreaming. I don’t know what happened, but I can’t remember the last time I actually… daydreamed. It seems like such a waste of time, but on the otherhand, if you don’t, how much are you missing?
Yesterday, I was talking about a two week holiday in France. It’ is supposed to be for my “quiet time” but maybe I should re-think this. Why wait until spring of 2007 for a little “me time”. Maybe I should be doing a little daydreaming every day. Maybe we all …read more

Wow! I mean… Really – Wow!!

Wow! I mean… Really – Wow!!

“We are star stuff. We are the universe made manifest trying to figure itself out.”Delenn from Babylon 5 (Hey, its SciFi – they talk a lot about the universe!)
“Once you can accept the universe as being something expanding into an infinite nothing which is something, wearing stripes with plaid is easy.”Albert Einstein

I have seen one before and Lord willing, I’ll see one again. But all I can say after watching the Web cast of that solar eclipse, is wow! How small we all are. When God puts on a show, everybody watches!!
I hope you were able …read more

Rare Solar Eclipse March 29, 2006

Rare Solar Eclipse March 29, 2006

I have only seen one solar eclipse. It was either in the late 70s or early 80s; I was working on the 7th floor of an office building and it was an excellent view (not of the sun of course, because you can’t look at that directly) but of the planet below (granted, a very small piece of the planet). All of the street lights came on, everyone had to turn their headlights on – it was a slice of night in the middle of the day.
I can understand why cultures viewed eclipses as something very mysterious and …read more
