Did you dream last night?

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.
Gloria Steinem

Do you believe that your dreams mean something? Could it be that your dreams are trying to tell you something?? There has to be some reason we dream don’t you think??

“There is no universally agreed-upon biological definition of dreaming. The dogma states that dreams are associated with REM sleep but the evidence for this is not strong. Subjects awakened during REM sleep usually report having been dreaming but since REM sleep is not as deep as non-REM sleep, it would be expected that dreams are better remembered but not necessarily more common during REM sleep. Some neurologists even group mental phenomena such as daydreaming under the umbrella of dreaming.”

During a typical lifetime a person spends about 6 years dreaming (which is about 2 hours each night.

What do you dream about and did your dreams ever come true? My daughter has the most amazing knack of dreaming about the future.

Today’s Weird Holiday… It’s Bathtub Party Day

Chin Deep in Bubbles: Little Luxuries for Every Day

Chin Deep in Bubbles is about all the little luxuries that you can and should experince everyday! My favorite has to be the recipe for French Patisserie Spa Brownies… it’s just full of all kinds of decadent ingredients and if you can’t get decadent at Christmas time, when can you??

And of course I would have a book about the topic. According to my husband, there isn’t a topic that I don’t have something on. I think he’s wrong, but I have to admit that I picked up another book for myself yesterday when I was supposed to be buying Christmas presents.

And the bathtub party bit… well, maybe I’m just not as decadent as I thought!!

Have You Learned to Meditate Yet?

Island Paradise-Relax

I find it incredibly hard to sit still long enough to “stop thinking”, but I can definitely work on the relaxing part of the equasion! And if I am after to master this meditation thing, this like a good place to start. I’m going to sit under one of those trees and just stare out at the water… and oh yes… breathe deeply!

Tahiti-Beach at Bora Bora

Teach us to delight in the simple things… Rudyard Kipling

Right now that would be sitting here and staring out at the waves lapping against a shore… anywhere. I’m not fussy. ;)

What Is It With Me??

Friday, June 30th, 2006

I picked up a Zen Garden for my son (for Christmas) and then decided that I really wanted it for me anyway, so after leaving it in the closet for a few months, I opened the box.

Zen Garden

This is similar to mine but with one difference. I can’t stand for it to have lines. The sand has to be perfectly smooth. If I don’t get absolutely every mark out of the sand it drives me crazy!! And it’s not as if I’m “Suzy Homemaker” or anything. It’s a good thing you can’t see my office at the moment… it’s just this garden that is affected. It has to be perfect.

I wonder what a psychologist would have to save about me??

Workaholism: Give It a Rest

Monday, June 19th, 2006

Chained to the Desk: A Guidebook for Workaholics, Their Partners and Children, and the Clinicians Who Treat Them“There’s a big difference between a work ethic and a work obsession ‑- and knowing it can greatly improve your quality of life.

For some people there are never enough hours in the workday. They never seem able to clear their desks, snap shut their briefcases and focus on the rest of life ‑- even when they’re financially secure and their work habits are threatening their health or home lives. “My husband’s working, his traveling, were always put to me in terms of our being able to have more stuff,” says Tish, a fiftyish woman who lives in Silicon Valley. “I didn’t want more stuff.” She recently ended her 20-year marriage in part because her husband could not bring himself to lighten his workload and invest more time at home.”

Sadly in our house, I’m the workaholic and I never expected it to happen to me. My university years were full of parties and planning summer vacations and what I would actually do for a living was seldom on my mind. But now, when I am able to work at home (as little as I might want to) I’m finding myself coming into my office before breakfast and I’m in here last thing at night too. If I’m not working… I feel guilty! Where do these feelings come from?

Luckily I have a husband who is pretty easy going and simply brings me a glass of wine when he thinks that I’m working too hard. But I know that I really should schedule some down time for doing nothing…

Now that should be interesting…

*And to all of you Dads out there… have a great, stress-free day!

Your Project for Today

Tropical Beach - Sunset
Most of the time we do things that are expected of us, but today, perhaps we should do something that we always dreamed about. There has to be something playful and fun that you really want to do today that has nothing to do with work??

I think that this is what I would choose for me. Simply sitting in a comfortable chair and watching the sun set. That’s like doing nothing right?? I can’t remember the last time I did that! I just have to go and find a few palm trees to put in place and I think that I’m missing a beach too.

Creating a Zen Garden

Sunday, June 11th, 2006

I just finished buying a table top version of this garden and then decided… what if I did the same thing to the back yard?? I can live without grass!

zen garden

But then my daughter, the landscaper said that all the neighborhood cats would like it too. That sort of ruined that idea. Well, it was nice while it lasted. I guess I’m back to square one! And I was so excited for a couple of hours!!

But it does look soothing doesn’t it!

Morning in the Garden

Making the Most of Shade : How to Plan, Plant, and Grow a Fabulous Garden that Lightens up the ShadowsMorning is the best of all times in the garden. The sun is not yet hot. Sweet vapors rise from the earth. Night dew clings to the soil and makes plants glisten. Birds call to one another. Bees are already at work. - William Longgood

I didn’t use to like mornings very much. Staying in bed until 11 on the weekends sounded like a much better plan. And then I was talking to a few people who loved the peaceful silence of the morning. I thought that they were nuts! Who gets up on the weekend before they have to? But, after listening to all of their raves about how gorgeous it is, I decided to go out one morning and actually see if there was anything to it.

I was surprised to find that early morning in the back yard was kind of nice. I had no idea that we had so many birds in the fields behind us. So this weekend, before you start your busy day, it might be nice to take a steaming cup of coffee and sit on the porch for a half hour. It’s almost like a mini vacation. And I can’t believe I’m saying that either!

Owning the Day

Shades of Summer II

“He is only rich who owns the day. There is no king, rich man, fairy or demon who possesses such power as that - Ralph Waldo Emerson”

Me… I want to own that cottage! I could see myself sitting there for hours at a time, listening to the waves lap against the shore and sipping ice tea.
