Making Writing Fun for Kids

Making Writing Fun for Kids

A lot of people might not agree with me, but I think that if you can make writing fun for kids, a lot more of them just might find that they enjoy it. My two think of writing as work! Somewhere along the line, they missed the fun part!
A few years ago, I taught a creative writing course to a gifted class in our local school and the kids had the most fun when I made up little projects for them. One day I filled a paper bag with a lot of bits and pieces and told them to …read more

Today’s Weird Holiday… It’s National Corn Chip Day

When I was a kid, my parents owned a little convenience store at a lake and each day my sisters and I were given 25 cents to spend on whatever we wanted in the store. I remember what I bought vividly… a bottle of Coke and a bag of corn chips. That was definitely a summer to remember! And both for just 25 cents!! Can you imagine what that would cost now?? Anyway, here’s a little trivia and recipes for you.
Did You Know? Fritos Corn Chips were first marketed in 1961.
And just in case you would like to try your …read more

Britney on Madonna bandwagon?

Britney on Madonna bandwagon?

“Despite already having two young children on her own, Britney Spears is reportedly considering adding another addition to her young family.
The pop star has allegedly hinted that she would like to adopt an underprivileged African child, after witnessing the goodwill of her mentor Madonna.”
What do you think about all of this celebrity adoption? Do you think that it is a publicity stunt, they are actually interested in the welfare of the children or are you still sitting on the fence about this one??

It’s Comic Book Day

It’s Comic Book Day

Did you ever read comic books when you were a kid? I was never a big fan, but I do think that I read Archie. There were a couple of girls in that storyline right?? A Veronica comes to mind, but that’s about all I can remember.
I wonder how much one of the early Archie comic books would be worth now? I know that Britt has a box full of really old ones that someone gave to her. She might be sitting on a gold mine and not even know it!
Any old comic books collecting dust in your attic??

Capture Great Shots with your Phone

Capture Great Shots with your Phone

“One of the reasons people leave their pictures imprisoned in their camera phones is that they’re disappointed with the shots they’ve taken. The images are too blurry or too washed out, or the perspective is distorted. In detecting details, film cameras and digital cameras are more limited than the human eye, and camera phones, in turn, are more limited than both film and digital cameras. For that reason, you not only need to apply basic photographic principles to get the best-looking pictures possible, you need to be aware of and know how to compensate for your camera phone’s deficiencies.”

How To Build a Bird Feeder From Scraps

How To Build a Bird Feeder From Scraps

“Here’s a set of plans for a pair of bird feeders that can be made from the scraps left over from other jobs. Whether you’re feeding birds for the winter or attracting them to your yard in the spring, these feeders are a great way to recycle your shop scraps. This also makes a great project to share with a child. You can use the project to teach a child some basic woodworking skills with an emphasis on shop and tool safety.”
Well, chances are that maybe even I could put this together. It looks easy enough!

Mud Puddles

Mud Puddles

When was the last time you stepped out of your shoes and walked through a puddle? The little three year old that lives next door did just that a few days ago and it looked like she was having the time of her life. The only thing she forgot to do was take off her flip flops which of course… got stuck in the mud. So what did she do?? She went into her house and came out with new flip flops a few minutes later. And then right back to the puddle!
