Your 20 Minute Vacation- December 30th

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

20-Minute Vacations: Quick, Affordable, and Fun That’s all you have… twenty minutes to kick back and do just what you want to do. So, what’s it going to be? Believe it or not, I actually have a book about that very topic. Yes, I do collect a lot of books and sometimes I even open them up to see what they are about!

I just noticed that it’s listed for $2.99! I just looked at the back of the book and I paid $18.95. Guess I should have waited!

Today’s Weird Holiday… It’s Bathtub Party Day

Chin Deep in Bubbles: Little Luxuries for Every Day

Chin Deep in Bubbles is about all the little luxuries that you can and should experince everyday! My favorite has to be the recipe for French Patisserie Spa Brownies… it’s just full of all kinds of decadent ingredients and if you can’t get decadent at Christmas time, when can you??

And of course I would have a book about the topic. According to my husband, there isn’t a topic that I don’t have something on. I think he’s wrong, but I have to admit that I picked up another book for myself yesterday when I was supposed to be buying Christmas presents.

And the bathtub party bit… well, maybe I’m just not as decadent as I thought!!

A Weird Holiday for November 30th - STAY HOME BECAUSE YOU ARE WELL

Miracle on 34th Street - Special EditionMiracle on 34th Street
Now this is my kind of holiday. You stay home… simply because you are well! Kind of reminds me of the days when we used to skip school. Oh, those were fun days. But, in case any teens are reading this entry, it was a very, very bad thing for me to do!!

Anyway, I work at home so I can’t very well take the day off just because I’m “well”, but I can take the afternoon off work and watch that video up there. Yes, I own that one and the earlier version as well. I wonder when someone will remake it yet again?? I love to see how they tweak the story each time! Can’t say which version is my favorite… like the both equally!

Last Night’s Christmas Walk

Monday, November 27th, 2006

candy canesThe three of us bundled up last night and went for a walk. Britt and her dad were interested in burning calories after dinner, I was looking for a little bit of Christmas decorating inspiration. None of us are too keen on climbing up and stringing lights, and that seems to be all I saw last night. But I do have a small garden at the front of the house, so this candy cane fence might be one way of decorating our yard.

And from what I have been reading, the little fence looks as good during the day as it does at night, so that is a bonus. So, maybe a candy cane theme for the rest of the house might work as well?? I will have to see if I can find a wreath for the front door that features candy canes and maybe something for the garage doors as well.

I do like the idea of a theme though! Just have to decide what theme it’s going to be. So, I am one step closer to deciding! ;)

Thanksgiving Dinner with Turkey and Pie
Here’s to a great day and an even better dinner. I can’t wait until someone can come up with a computer that provides you with the scents of special holidays. I can almost smell that turkey from where I’m sitting, but not quite! ;)

Happy Thanksgiving :)

How to Ration Your Kid’s Halloween Candy

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

Gummy Fangs [200CT Box]“So Halloween’s finally over, and your kid’s plastic pumpkin is bursting to overflowing with Snickers, Twizzlers, Mike & Ikes, and several dozen other kinds of candy, both popular and obscure. Kids being kids, his first impulse is to eat everything immediately, or as much as he can choke down each and every day, short of getting sick to his stomach. How do you ration the bounty to healthier doses?”

Just in case there is still some left, here is a little how to that should help! And for those of you who bought too much to hand out, this should help you from pinching a Snickers bar every time you think of it! Yes, I’m talking about me! ;)

The Victoria Secret Fantasy Bra

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

fantasy braOkay, the bra looks gorgeous. Well, it should if it costs The $6.5 million dollars. But who would buy such a bra… even if it is comfortable? The only thing that I can come up with is that it is a good way for Victoria Secret to get it’s name out to the masses with Christmas just around the corner. Okay, that sounds logical, but to go… this extravagent? Couldn’t they come up with a 6 thousand dollar bra?? Seeing that none of mine are even close to being that expensive, it would still get my attention and it would set back the company millions of dollars!

Any ideas on why they created this fantasy bra??

It’s Indian Summer Day… because I said so!

Indian Summer

Unless your family is huge, holidays can be few and far between. That’s why I particularly like these weird holidays that I try to track down for you every day. But if for some reason, the day’s holiday doesn’t work for you, simply go out and make up one of your own. For example, as I look out the window, the view almost takes your breath away. The colors aren’t this intense quite yet, but the trees are beginning to turn so we could celebrate “Indian Summer Day”. And for dinner I could look up some native recipes to serve. If nothing else, I could always whip up a batch of bannock to go with homemade soup.

Bannock for Indian Summer Day

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

Native Harvests: American Indian Wild Foods and Recipes 3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons baking powder
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 1/2 cups water

Place all dry ingredients into a bowl and mix well. There is nothing worse than biting into a wedge of bannock and finding a lump of baking powder.

Add melted butter and water. I find that a large metal bowl seems to work the best. It takes less water for some reason.

Remove dough from bowl and knead until dough resembles bread dough. Pat into a circle if you are baking, or cut with a cookie cutter if you plan to fry the dough. If you plan to bake, you might want to score the circle for easier cutting later.

You can either bake the bread in a greased frying pan or bake on greased cookie sheet in a 350 degree oven for about 30 minutes.

Quotes about Thanksgiving

Saturday, September 16th, 2006

Thanksgiving (Williams-Sonoma)What we’re really talking about is a wonderful day set aside on the fourth Thursday of November when no one diets. I mean, why else would they call it Thanksgiving? ~Erma Bombeck, “No One Diets on Thanksgiving,” 26 November 1981

And I just realized that ours is only a few weeks away. Going to have to get busy! One trip to my Moms for the family get-together and then another Thanksgiving for the immediate family. Okay, before Britt jumps on me for this entry lol, I have a confession to make… (more…)
