Building Characters

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Creating Unforgettable CharactersI was just reading an article about organizing your kitchen and keeping it neat. That lead me to wonder what kind of character you could build (for your next novel) if he or she had the untidiest kitchen you could ever imagine. As I write this about a zillion possibilities are popping into my mind.

What about a serial killer?

Relaxing a Little Each Day

The Winter Garden: Create a Garden that Shines Through the Forgotten SeasonBritt and I have gotten into the habit of going for a walk each morning. It’s cold and I hate it, but I’m kind of glad that we did. No one else seems to be out and yesterday we stopped at one of our neighborhood parks and we had it all to ourselves. We sat on a bench, watched the clouds for a while and even checked out the playground equipment.

When was the last time you actually sat on one of those bouncy animals and not felt like an idiot? Luckily there was no one around lol…

Don’t know what I’m going to do when my landscaping daughter goes back to work in the spring. I’m kind of liking the company!

Today’s Quote by Helen Keller

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

No one has a right to consume happiness without producing it.
Helen Keller

I never quite thought of it in that way. I wonder what I can do today that would produce a little happiness for someone else?? Cook something… nah, that would probably just make them feel miserable!

Are you satisfied?

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

Hartmann Classic Zip 3-Ring Agenda Agenda - Natural Belting 4700660That is a tricky question. If someone was to ask you right this very minute, what would you be able to truthfully tell them. To be honest, I am a very goal oriented person, so I’m always looking at what I need to accomplish next. Is this normal as it just might mean that I’m never satisfied.

What are your thoughts on the topic??

Your Schedule

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Manatee Memo HolderSuch a boring topic I know, but I find that if you take a few minutes to review your schedule each day, you get a lot more accomplished by the end of the week. And that means a sense of accomplishment. People are always asking me how I pile so much into my day and it’s all because of how I schedule things.

But, I make sure that I also leave time for play!! No play makes people awfully boring!

What is the imagination?

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Not a BoxI am imagination. I can see what the eyes cannot see. I can hear what the ears cannot hear. I can feel what the heart cannot feel.

Peter Nivio Zarlenga

What would life be with it?? But I have to ask… have you lost some of it along the way? I seem to have had tons when I was a kid, but somewhere along the line, logic took over. Now that’s hardly fair. I am going to have to set aside a little time for some old fashioned day dreaming. Haven’t done that in a long time either!

What was the last thing you day dreamed about?

Managing Your Time and Being a Writer

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

A Writer's Book of Days: A Spirited Companion and Lively Muse for the Writing LifeWell actually the idea of managing your time could apply to everyone, not just the writer. I guess the more I think about it, the more I realize that it’s not about managing time so much as learning to manage ourselves. That is the key and I noticed it even more so while on holiday. I am definitely a person who is governed by routine. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing!

Anybody can become angry

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Controlling People: How to Recognize, Understand, and Deal With People Who Try to Control You Anybody can become angry, that is easy; but to be angry with the right person, and to the right degree, and at the right time, and for the right purpose, and in the right way, that is not within everybody’s power, that is not easy.

Aristotle

So when was the last time you flew off the handle? I have a tendency to keep things bottled up and then I blow! Not a good habit.

Gotta Love the Mall at Christmas

Saturday, December 9th, 2006

Call of the Mall : The Geography of Shopping by the Author of Why We BuyI really can’t imagine how there are people out there who don’t like shopping?? And especially like this time of year, but I have to admit, Britt and I were at the mall on Thursday (I missed a day!!) and we saw so many women who obviously weren’t having a good time. Now tell me, what is there not to like?? You shop, you have lunch, you shop some more, you have coffee and then you might even decide to go out for dinner to top off the entire night.

But Britt and I were good on Thursday. We actually decided to go home for dinner. G was on a business trip, so he would never have known lol… But we did go home and made a salad and Monte Christo sandwiches.

Thank God for a daughter who likes to cook! ;) And here’s to many more shopping days before Christmas!
