I always wondered why Christmas offers so many holiday specials, but the same is not offered for Halloween? Well, I guess you can say things are improving a little. No, you aren’t going to find a list of specials for the month of October, but there is a line up for October 31st at least. If you have nothing to do but hand out treats on the big night, you might want to check out what is available to watch on the spookiest night of the year. So, stock up on popcorn and get ready!

A Chilean taxi driver has come up with a new way to fight assaults: make your vehicle so conspicuous that nobody would dare try to rob you.
After being robbed several times, Juan Geraldo upholstered and covered every square inch of his car’s interior with black and white spotted cowhides, including the steering wheel and ceiling. He then decorated the interior with stuffed toy cows, and added a horn that moos.
The visual effect is even more impressive at night, when the black and white taxi interior is set off from floor to ceiling by a flood of neon light.

Believe it or not, it’s Sharpen Your Pencils Day. Now think back to when you were in grade school. Do you remember that you were issued two pencils and each had your number taped to the bottom. One you were given to use for the day and the other, sat at the back of the room in a wooden holder, waiting to be sharpened. Don’t ask me why, but I just loved it when the teacher said that it was my turn to sharpen the pencils. That would be about 30 pencils to be sharpened and I GOT TO DO …read more

Well, you can make of this what you will. It’s National Nut Day! For me, that just might tossing caution to the wind and ordering a Macdonald’s sundae. Okay, I can’t eat the whole thing, but I did sample a caramel sundae topped with nuts, and it really did taste rather amazing! Hot fudge is coming to mind simply because it’s turning out to be rather a miserable day, and watching a movie beneath a cozy blanket and eating a hot fudge sundae covered with crushed nuts, doesn’t seem like a half bad way to pass the day!

There is hot chocolate out of a tin and then there is homemade hot chocolate. And just in case you are wondering about the difference… Mexican hot chocolate is heavily spiced with cinnamon, and you use bittersweet chocolate. An inmate who used laxatives to shed 31 pounds so he could squeeze through a hole in a prison wall had been frustrated by the indefinite sentence he was serving, a judge said Friday.

I would have expected this one to come in sometime during December, but apparently not. Today’s is Brandied Fruit day, which leads me to the question, just how stuck on fruit cake are you? I for one can’t imagine a Christmas going by without a big Christmas cake for dessert. And it has to have marzipan and tons of nuts.
And lucky for me, no one else in the family likes it, so I get it all to myself. Unfortunately, you can only eat so much fruit cake, so a lot of it goes into the freezer. If I looked …read more
