Morning in the Garden

Making the Most of Shade : How to Plan, Plant, and Grow a Fabulous Garden that Lightens up the ShadowsMorning is the best of all times in the garden. The sun is not yet hot. Sweet vapors rise from the earth. Night dew clings to the soil and makes plants glisten. Birds call to one another. Bees are already at work. – William Longgood

I didn’t use to like mornings very much. Staying in bed until 11 on the weekends sounded like a much better plan. And then I was talking to a few people who loved the peaceful silence of the morning. I thought that they were nuts! Who gets up on the weekend before they have to? But, after listening to all of their raves about how gorgeous it is, I decided to go out one morning and actually see if there was anything to it.

I was surprised to find that early morning in the back yard was kind of nice. I had no idea that we had so many birds in the fields behind us. So this weekend, before you start your busy day, it might be nice to take a steaming cup of coffee and sit on the porch for a half hour. It’s almost like a mini vacation. And I can’t believe I’m saying that either!
