Life as a Worry Wart
There are going to be times when circumstances will leave you feeling overwhelmed and scared out of your mind. I don’t think there is a parent alive who hasn’t experienced this kind of stress. Your daughter hasn’t arrived home when you expected and suddenly all sorts of scenarios start racing through your mind. As a self confessed worry wart where my kids are concerned, I often found that if I give myself something else to do, it takes my mind off the situation. Sometimes, just turning on the TV can help. If I can lose myself in someone else’s life, I can forget about my own troubles… that really haven’t occurred yet anyway.
I’m also working on the concept of not worrying about things until I really have something to worry about. Why do we always jump to the worst possible outcome when there is usually a perfectly logical explanation?
My daughter’s latest is that her cell phone went dead and she was stressed, because she knew that I would worry if she didn’t check in. Am I turning her into a mini me??
Have you learned to harness all the needless worry in your life? I’m certainly working on it, but it’s hard!
