Can There Be An End To War?

Can There Be An End To War?

“We are implementing a strategy that will lead to victory in Iraq,” the president assured a public that is increasingly skeptical that he has a plan to end the fighting after the deaths of more than 2,300 U.S. troops.”
ABC News
I was thinking about the eclipse today, and what a wonderful world it really is that we have. Then my mind wandered to the foolishness of man. Why is it, we (we, meaning humankind) seem to have a need for war.
I am so tired of turning on the computer and finding breaking news reports of people dying in …read more

Wow! I mean… Really – Wow!!

Wow! I mean… Really – Wow!!

“We are star stuff. We are the universe made manifest trying to figure itself out.”Delenn from Babylon 5 (Hey, its SciFi – they talk a lot about the universe!)
“Once you can accept the universe as being something expanding into an infinite nothing which is something, wearing stripes with plaid is easy.”Albert Einstein

I have seen one before and Lord willing, I’ll see one again. But all I can say after watching the Web cast of that solar eclipse, is wow! How small we all are. When God puts on a show, everybody watches!!
I hope you were able …read more

Rare Solar Eclipse March 29, 2006

Rare Solar Eclipse March 29, 2006

I have only seen one solar eclipse. It was either in the late 70s or early 80s; I was working on the 7th floor of an office building and it was an excellent view (not of the sun of course, because you can’t look at that directly) but of the planet below (granted, a very small piece of the planet). All of the street lights came on, everyone had to turn their headlights on – it was a slice of night in the middle of the day.
I can understand why cultures viewed eclipses as something very mysterious and …read more

Time – So Little, So Much

Time – So Little, So Much

“I would say that 95% of the stress in our lives relates to our feeling of time poverty.”Stephan Rechtschaffen
There’s never enough time, is there. We rush from one moment to the next. I thought about that tonight when I was talking to my mom on the phone. I had to go because I had to work. Rushing from one thing to the other.
That is nuts.
I spent exactly as much time on the phone with her, talking about how I had to get some things done, as I would have had I just enjoyed …read more

Three Blogs That Think Outside The Box

Three Blogs That Think Outside The Box

I love the blogs at b5media. There isn’t a one that isn’t full of fascinating information and behind those postings, are some of the greatest people I have ever worked with. I wish I could personally escort each of you to every site and spend time talking about it.
Alas, real life, once again rears its head.
In lieu of that, I will just will bring you a few at a time. But I couldn’t wait on these three. They are written by the same author, Kevin Humphrey. Kevin has this thinking-outside-the-box thing, down pat. And …read more

Follow Your Bliss at Zaadz

“Not until the creation and maintenance of decent conditions of life for all men are recognized and accepted as a common obligation of all men . . . shall we . . . be able to speak of mankind as civilized.”Albert Einstein
I love finding good Web sites. Ones that are caring, peaceful, and give to their readers. I sure found one today and I want to share it with you. Actually, it is more than a Web site. It is a community of people who are working together to change the world. It is interfaith, …read more

Emotions – Positive and Negative

Emotions – Positive and Negative

“Blessed are all the emotions be they dark or bright.”
Nathaniel Hawthorne
Emotions are often regarded as positive or negative. But is that fair to a holistic and well rounded individual. Probably not. We too often consider emotions such as anger, jealousy, and sometimes even sadness, as negative emotions.
A total human being is constructed of all emotions; separating one emotion from another, and declaring some to be invalid, negates more than the emotion. It negates the individual.
I would propose, that it is not the emotion that is negative, but how the emotion is expressed, …read more

W. Somerset Maugham

W. Somerset Maugham

“We are not the same persons this year as last; nor are those we love. It is a happy chance if we, changing, continue to love a changed person.”W. Somerset Maugham

I have been reading a bit of W. Somerset Maugham lately.  He was a very interesting man, and a writer worth reading and studying. He was considered an expert at plot; each word was deliberately placed to propel the storyline without sacrificing the story itself.
“I have never pretended to be anything but a story teller. It has amused me to tell stories and I have told a great many. It …read more

Daily Jots Enrichs Through Beauty

Daily Jots Enrichs Through Beauty

It’s lovely to simplify your life.  All of a sudden your priorities change and you see what is important.  Do you know why?  Because you have more time!  You aren’t racing around doing things that don’t really matter!
This posting from “Aging Fabulous,” is a perfect example.  It is about women and cosmetics.  As a woman leaves her teens, she learns more about her own inner beauty and how to enhance it.  And that skill is even more important as her 30s, 40s, and 50s come along.  Less is more when it comes to cosmetics and the beauty of the …read more

Third Sunday in Lent

Third Sunday in Lent

I haven’t paid much attention to Lent this year and I feel bad about that.  Perhaps I have had my priorities in the wrong place, or perhaps I haven’t been able to “put my life in the wheelbarrow.”  You will have to read this to understand what I meant by that.
My favorite Lent site, if you will, can be found at Franciscan Radio.  There you will find a complete multimedia online Lenten retreat.  There is music, readings, a homily, and much more.  And, you can listen to it at your convenience.
Take a few minutes for Lent.  Get away from …read more
