Women’s Heart Day – Sister to Sister
“You change your life by changing your heart.”
Unknown
Did you know that February 17th is National Women’s Heart Day? Most people know that February is heart month for the American Heart Association and certainly for Valentine’s Day, but there is a special day set aside, just for women and the often undiagnosed problem of heart disease.
It is an unfortunate fact that women are often undiagnosed with heart disease. It is also a fact that heart disease is the leading killer of women, taking one in three women as a victim.
Sister to Sister is a six year-old organization that is the only organization devoted to the health of women’s hearts. 1/3 of the women they have screened were found to have a high risk of having heart disease; they were empowered to seek further diagnostic testing and to take charge of their own health. The other 2/3? They were given peace of mind.
Women taking care of other women on a grassroots level; Sister to Sister represents the difference that can be made when ordinary people get together to make extraordinary differences!
