News Bloopers – Real Life Laughter

I love words. They are the tools of my trade that, hopefully, paint pictures of what I am thinking. I also love the way words can take control and proceed with their own agenda!

Newspaper and news stories in general are great for word blunders. It’s the headlines; they can be goofed up… well, beyond words. I remember my personal favorite that occurred in the opening minutes of the nightly news in a large city; unfortunately I can’t recall where it happened, but I laugh about it to this day. It was a 30 second summary of the upcoming news show and theBroadcast News by Brandon Keim anchor was pitching the show.

“Stay tuned for tonight’s news where we have footage of Emperor Hirohito’s flight today and the weatherman tells us there is a nip in the air.”

I always imagine the producer and director passing out cold at that moment. How they ever composed themselves to do the news, I’ll never know.

I found a Web site today that has some fabulous news headlines blunders. It shows you just how carefully things have to be worded to get the right message across. Remember, these are all real headlines!!
