Looking Back on the Past

Thought of the Day:
“What you need to know about the past is that no matter what has happened, it has all worked together to bring you to this very moment. And this is the moment you can choose to make everything new. Right now.”
Unknown

Thinking Outside of the Box:
Everyone is thinking about resolutions right now. Which ones to make, which ones to rationalize around so they don’t have to be made, but it all narrows down to something. Making resolutions means looking into the past. “I need to change this,” or “I need to stop doing that.” At the end of the year we sit down and evaluate ourselves.

That is not a good way to end the year. And it is certainly no way to begin the next one! Sitting in judgment of yourself is not healthy. The decisionsA diary or journal you have made, are made; you can’t change those choices. The things that have happened, have happened and nothing will change that either.

But you are not left without a tool. Let the past mistakes or events slip away and turn toward tomorrow, New Year’s Eve, with all of the hope and promise of new experiences. Yes, new mistakes will be made – such is the nature of life. But many good choices will be made and each day is a precious gift.

In many ways, every night is New Year’s Eve and everyday is a brand new start. Cherish the past and create the future; it’s waiting to be found!

Parting Thoughts:
“The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.”
Lesley P. Hartley

“The past is our definition. We may strive, with good reason, to escape it, or to escape what is bad in it, but we will escape it only by adding something better to it.”
Wendell Berry

“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.”
Oprah Winfrey

“There is no distance on this earth as far away as yesterday.”
Robert Nathan

“Living the past is a dull and lonely business; looking back strains the neck muscles, causing you to bump into people not going your way.”
Edna Ferber

Adelle Tilton
