Everyday, Not Just Sunday, Just Show Up !

Thought of the Day:
“In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.”
John Bunyan – Author of “The Pilgrim’s Progress”

Thinking Outside of the Box:
People often think that in order to approach God in prayer, they have to have an organized plan of attack. In other words, as when entering a business meeting with a proposal, an outline is constructed to make the presentation clearer and easier to understand. But should we approach God that way? That seems a bit contrived to me. And prepared or memorized prayers arent the problem. I think there is a solution but I dont think it is an easy one.

  1. Empty your mind when you approach God. He already knows what you are going to say. If you define the word prayer as a conversation, then you have to hold up your end. If you define it as a time of blending heart and soul, you just have to show up.
  2. Use memorized prayers (Our Fathers, Hail Mary, etc) as a way to quiet the rest of your mind; as in meditation, if you are repeating a memorized and focused prayer, the rest of your mind and soul is free to progress as it shows up to be with God.

A Last Thought:
“So when we sing, ‘Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,’ we are not thinking of the nearness of place, but of the nearness of relationship. It is for increasing degrees of awareness that we pray, for a more perfect consciousness of the divine Presence. We need never shout across the spaces to an absent God. He is nearer than our own soul, closer than our most secret thoughts.”
