Black Cats and Jack O’Lanterns – Happy Halloween!!
Okay, it’s Halloween. I don’t want to think outside the box. In fact, I would like to get in the box and jump out and scare someone! This is the day to be someone we are not. Boggles the mind, doesn’t it? Could it be we dress up in our alter egos? Is the teller at the bank dressed as Scarlett O’Hara (“Gone With the Wind”) telling you that she is sick and tired of technology and would like Rhett to come take her away? Frankly, my dear, I don’t think she gives a ….
If I were going to a Halloween party this year, I would go as either:
1. A computer monitor (you know, big box, cords everywhere, flicker rate too low, etc) I’d need a friend to be the keyboard. But I wouldn’t do it unless I could be a MacOsX. This is my medium budget plan.
2. Both sides of the drama/comedy mask – one on each side of me. This would take some time and expensive make-up. I wonder if that means I have a split personality. I think it simply means I can’t decide. Or how about this – I find the tragedy in the humor and the humor in the tragedy. Either way, this is my high-end plan.
3. A writer. I am a writer, so that is my low budget plan. All I need is a pen and a piece of paper. Maybe a book, “How to Write a Book,” would be a good prop. Something that indicates starving artist too – that would be a necessity.
Anyway, I found some fun Halloween quotes. Go dress up, put on silly make-up (don’t forget the make-up remover and remember Vaseline works in a pinch) and just have fun.
“Shadows of a thousand years rise again unseen,
Voices whisper in the trees, ‘Tonight is Halloween!’”
Dexter Kozen
“From ghoulies and ghosties and long leggety beasties and things that go bump in the night, Good Lord, deliver us!”
Scottish saying
“A grandmother pretends she doesn’t know who you are on Halloween.”
Erma Bombeck
“Nothing beats a haunted moonlit night on All Hallows Eve…. And on this fatal night, at this witching time, the starless sky laments black and unmoving. The somber hues of an ominous, dark forest are suddenly illuminated under the emerging face of the full moon.”
Kim Elizabeth
“The witches fly
Across the sky,
The owls go, “Who? Who? Who?”
The black cats yowl
And green ghosts howl,
‘Scary Halloween to you!’”
Nina Willis Walte
“If a man harbors any sort of fear, it makes him landlord to a ghost.”
Lloyd Douglas
And my personal favorite Halloween quote:
“A house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is a whispering in distant chambers, an unearthly hand presses the snib of the window, the latch rises. Ghosts were created when the first man awoke in the night.”
J.M. Barrie
