The B5Media network:

Always Sail, Never Drift

Thought of the Day:
“I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving: To reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it, but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.”
Oliver Wendall Holmes

Thinking Outside of the Box:
It is a fall night here and I can hear the gusts of wind. In fact, they are blowing hard enough that the pine tree next to my living room window, is brushing the branches against the glass. I keep meaning to trim those off because they startle me quite a bit, but I never think of it unless it is the middle of the night and I am hearing that sound. It startles me; it is too close to a “bump in the night,” for my liking. But after reading Holmes’ quote above, I wonder if I should trim them at all (besides, the tree would look unbalanced and it was here first). Maybe I should leave them because they make me restless and cause me to plan to do something. They keep my mind in motion as I plan to do something.

I will not allow them to scare me, even though I continually vow to remove them; perhaps I can view them as motivation to keep moving and never go stagnant.

This Day in History:
On October 28, 1958, Pope John XXIII was elected by the College of Cardinals as Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. Speaking of someone who didn’t stay still and allowed changes! He doubled the number of cardinals, promoted diversity within the Catholic Church, launched a council for ecumenical dialogue and instituted Vatican II. He was beatified (mini-sainted) by Pope John Paul II in the year 2000. But don’t forget, and Pope John XXIII would be the first to tell you this, you don’t have to be Pope to change the world!

Arbitrary Quote of the Day:
“Everything is becoming science fiction. From the margins of an almost invisible literature has sprung the intact reality of the 20th century.” J.G. Ballard
